Mattress Cleaning
How Dirty Does Your Mattress Get?
It is a known fact that mattresses accumulate dirt, dust and various contaminants over time.
Everyone sweats a small amount during sleep to regulate body temperature. In Singapore’s humid climate, a person sweats around 200ml (approximately half a cup) during a typical 8-hour sleep on average. Double that for a couple sleeping on a queen bed. That is about 140 litres of sweat a queen or king mattress absorb in a year.
Bacteria, mould and dust mites thrive in moistened fabric, made worse by our body oils. Dust mites also feed on the millions of skin cells that you shed on the mattress every day. This may in turn cause health issues like runny nose, watery eyes, sneezing fits, and skin conditions like acne and eczema flare-ups.
If you experience allergies in the home, especially in the bedroom, your mattress might be to blame. Understanding the impact of these on you and your family’s health underscore the importance of mattress hygiene.
Tips for Keeping Mattresses Clean and Hygienic
Use mattress protectors - Mattress protectors act as a barrier between you and the mattress, reducing the amount of sweat that penetrates the mattress. They are typically waterproof and should be washed regularly.
Ventilation and airflow - Maintaining good ventilation in the bedroom can help reduce the accumulation of sweat on the mattress. Air-conditioning helps too.
Regular rotation - Turning the mattress periodically can help even out wear and tear, while also allowing different areas to air out and dry.
Use a dehumidifier - Dust mites love humid conditions so keep your bedroom at humidity levels between 40 - 50% with a dehumidifier.
Schedule professional cleaning - Having your mattress professionally cleaned every 6 months to tackle deep-seated dirt and eliminate mites and allergens.
Importance of Mattress Cleaning
While regular at-home maintenance is essential, professional mattress cleaning provides a deeper, more thorough cleanse that eliminates stubborn dirt, bacteria and dust mites. It is also a cost-effective way to extend the life of your costly mattress by preventing mould, stains, and unpleasant odours.
A clean, fresh mattress promotes better sleep, reduces allergens, and creates a healthier sleeping environment for you and your family. Don’t let an unclean mattress compromise your comfort or well-being.
How Often Should You Clean Your Mattress
Spot-clean stains immediately to prevent permanent damage and vacuum your mattress monthly to reduce surface debris.
We recommend having your mattress deep cleaned every 6 months. This process involves extraction of deeply embedded contaminants coupled with high-temperature steam to eliminate bacteria, germs and dust mites.
If you suffer from allergies, have pets, or sweat heavily, consider cleaning it every 3 to 4 months.
Our 3-Step Mattress Steam Cleaning Process
- Your mattress first goes through a wet extraction process that removes dust and dander from the entire surface of the mattress including seams, edges and crevices where dust, dirt and allergens accumulate.
- Visible stains are spot cleaned using an enzyme cleaner. (We do this on a best effort basis as not all stains can be removed).
- Using high-temperature steam calibrated at 165°C that is proven to eliminate 99% of germs and dust mites. The heat from the steam also breaks down body oils and loosens them from the material's fibres making it easier to extract during the cleaning process.
